Emily Fong

Emily Fong is an Australian Artist living and working in Fife. Emily has a bachelor of Architecture from the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia and has studied Fine Art at both the Queensland College of Art & Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee.

Her approach to drawing, painting and sculpture is brought about by a desire to know herself and to empathise with the embodied experiences of others and is brought together through a rigorous exploration of 'the container' and what it means to be contained. She hopes to expose the constructed nature of identity and the structures of power that run deeply in society by primarily studying containment as human embodied experience, the physicality and temporality of the skins we live in. Secondly, by studying skin as a layer of consumer culture and the masterful techniques of the marketing machine, and lastly containment as the physical layers of constructing objects.

All of her works have a foundation in drawing, observation and play, using humour and colour as devices to disarm the viewer from their own sense of self-preservation. The act of witnessing is of utmost importance to her as an artist and a conscious human being.
