Rose Bentley-Steed

When I lived in Edinburgh I used to spend a lot of my time at the Botanical Gardens and it was there I became fascinated with botanical illustration. I use a dry brush technique with miniature sable brushes and a hand-held lens, often done on a stark white background. I studied biology at University, so I have a natural curiosity to distinguish the key features of a plant that makes it unique. Painting in such fine detail, is my way of exploring and studying the beauty of the plant form.

In recent years I became interested in traditional book binding. It became an extension of my passion in working with paper at a young age with paper folding, origami and sculpting. All the journals and books I make are hand-sewn and bound using centuries-old binding techniques. I also produce custom made albums for birthdays, anniversaries and weddings, as well as book repairing and conservation.

I now work alongside my husband Andrew, running a paper and wood business called Oi!Panda. Since then our business continues to grow taking artwork commissions, supplying handmade books and paper goods across the U.K.
